This beautiful lady celebrated her 23 1/2 birthday yesterday and I was blessed to be able to be there celebrating with her. This is Kim Graham, I have known her since childhood. She is the most inspiring and uplifting person I have ever met. In 2008, weeks before we were to graduate high school Kim was diagnosed with Ewings Sarcoma a rare form of cancer found mostly in children and adolescents. Kim walked for our graduation but was aided as she was extremely fragile from chemo. Kim beat the cancer but went into remission in both 2009 and as recently as November of last year, courageously beating cancer again both times. Nearly three weeks ago Kim went in for scans and received the devastating news that the cancer is back, and this time the doctors diagnosed her terminal. The cancer came back in the form of a tumor wrapped around the back of her heart. In light of the news her family and friends have spent the last few weeks non stop partying and checking things off her bucket list. Kim skipped finals to fly down to Florida and visit Harry Potter land. She also was allowed up in the cockpit of the plane and created an ice cream flavor at a local parlor. She was also given the extreme honor of receiving an extraordinary degree from UW-La Crosse, majoring in radiation therapy due to her battle with cancer, a degree reserved for students who have already passed, making her one of the first living students to receive such a degree and allowing her to check graduating college off her bucket list. When I spoke to her yesterday she said she was going to try chemo to see if it would shrink the tumor, but if it does not she will stop treatment.

This girl is seriously the most courageous and strongest person I have ever met. Her and her family have maintained positive attitudes and willpower and unwavering faith throughout it all. They are truly incredible people and I am so blessed to be able to call her friend and to have had them in my life. She is living proof that if you believe in yourself and always have faith you can do anything. If she could pursue her dreams and go to college and fight cancer you can do anything.
